About this Talk

Data analysis tends to start with the data and from there look for useful insights to drive decisions. Decision analysis, on the other hand, starts with decisions and uses a decision frame to determine the data analysis needs. In this talk, I will introduce decision science, use examples from the Calgary Zoo/Wilder Institute to explore the similarities and differences between data science and decision science, and illustrate why I think it is so powerful to use both. The talk will be targeted to a beginner audience and the concepts will be applicable to a broad range of industries.
